One of the biggest problems faced by schools nowadays is lack of time (and budget of course). There are so many pressures on senior managers and staff with the ever changing National Curriculum, reporting, assessing, record keeping etc that there isn't time for some of the most important factors of teaching (I speak from personal experience). At the same time we know that reading is the key to educational achievement and that we rely on parents to support us in promoting and developing children’s reading.
